A group of local people formed Transition Community Corsham (now renamed Corsham Climate Action) in 2008, responding to the challenges of climate change and diminishing resources. Inspired by the Transition Town movement. We work in five key areas: energy, transport, food, recycling and awareness
We cover the Corsham Community Area, the administrative region of Wiltshire Council including Corsham, Neston, Gastard, Box, Lacock, Colerne and surrounding hamlets.
We’ve built strong links with other community groups and work closely with the local Area Board, town and parish councils, schools, businesses and residents, seeking practical solutions to local sustainability issues.
Corsham Climate Action is an unincorporated, not-for-profit association funded by membership subscriptions, grants and business sponsorship. Run by volunteers, our inclusive organisation welcomes everyone who shares our aim to create a sustainable, resilient future for the Corsham Community Area. Our aims are:
- Creating and communicating a positive vision of a sustainable Corsham Community Area as a vibrant, abundant, joyful community in which to live, and inspiring the people of the Area to work towards that vision.
- Raising awareness amongst local people of the need to address sustainability challenges and take practical action at a local level, including promoting and supporting education and research on sustainability issues to achieve this goal.
- Establishing and maintaining a membership base of committed local people who share our goals and values, and acting as a co-ordinating hub to share information amongst the membership, support and encourage local sustainability initiatives, and communicate and celebrate progress towards these goals.
- Supporting and working with other local and national groups who share similar aims to Corsham Climate Action, sharing sustainability initiatives.
